2/3/09 - 9:30 PM - We're on the Move!

It's Moving Night!

The miracle workers in the MICU have worked their magic and have decided that Alyssa is ready to graduate MICU 101 and be moved on to a regular care floor. Thanks so much to Dr Lee and his incredible staff for getting Alyssa through the most tenuous of circumstances. Thanks to the unknown man from the Respiratory Therapy group that kept her breathing for over an hour using a hand pump while she underwent her MRI. Thanks to her first nurse, Erin, who got her through the first tough hours. Thanks to Areet, her nurse the first night, who had just returned from a two week vacation only to be told that she would be assigned to the MICU's "sickest patient," Alyssa. And, a big thanks to the team of doctors, led by Dr Lee, that just wouldn't give-up on Alyssa. At times there were up to 15 doctors working together to figure out a plan for Alyssa. Between seizures, high blood pressure, TTP-HUS, kidney failure, off the chart blood levels, congestive heart failure, and pneumonia, they faced a daunting task in balancing out the treatments. They worked as an efficient team and achieved the desired results.

As we've said before, this was only the first mile of a long journey; but it was a critical mile that had to be traveled to keep Alyssa heading down the road to recovery.

  3. Alyssa-
Glad to hear you are out of the ICU. I know God has been answering our prayers. I went to bed last night praying for you, and will continue. I know my mom was going to stop and see you last night. She is 4006 I believe- her # is 922-4006 at General if you need a familiar face. I told her to send you our love.
In fact I work at a teaching hospital with residents etc from University of Maryland and Ive been telling them your case- they may use it as a teaching case at their grand rounds. Sounds like you have a great team of Dr's which is GREAT! We will pray for them and thankful for them as well.
Keep in touch. Dave- thanks for the updates- your great too :)
    Love- JOce
